This video describes how scientists clone genes but uses easy to understand language. Steps in cloning a gene: 1) Isolate the target gene. In this video our target gene is the segment of human DNA responsible for making human insulin protein. 2) Insert the gene into a plasmid. To do this scientists use a restriction enzyme to cut open the plasmid at a specific restriction site. 3) Insert the plasmid into bacteria. 4) Culture the bacteria which contains the new plasmid. Every time the bacteria reproduces it will also reproduce the plasmid which contains our target gene. In this case the bacteria produces human insulin. Please rate and comment.
