Allergies - There are several cases of allergies associated with the consumption of GM food products. Due to lack of vitality in the products and unrecognized proteins produced by genetic modification may lead to various allergies.
Defects and increased mortality rate in animals - the rBGh in cows is a known issue and is caused by the feeding of genetically modified soy. Birth defects in calves always lead to sudden death of impotency among that breed of cows.
Biomagnifications - whenever a fertilizer is used to improve the GM crops, there is an increased chance of insecticide or the pesticide penetrating the food's cell which further increase along the food chain leading to biomagnifications. The increase of metal and inorganic farming methods often leads to diseases in plants. These plants when consumed by herbivores animals magnify the quantity of fertilizers. Due to consumption of herbivores by carnivores and omnivores animals there is further magnification leading to sudden deaths, extinction of certain species and imbalance in ecosystems.
Lower nutrition - the GMO foods usually are less nutritious than the normal foods. There is also an increase in the estrogen levels in human beings in some cases which has severe side effects on the health. The GMO foods are usually meant for the over production so as to meet the demands of the market and has less privilege towards the nutritional value.
Unpredictable health hazards - there are position defects when a new gene is inserted in the already existing organism. This can create an entirely new genome and an entirely new species of viruses which can give rise to new diseases.
Disruption of the original gene pool - by genetic implanting of one type to the other, there is a disruption of the gene pool and an entire species of crop or organism is lost. Various varieties of vegetative seeds become extinct because of lesser cultivation of such crops.
Animal fed GM products full of toxins - certain animal fed GM products are reasons for stunted growth, infant mortality, impotency, abnormal growth of cells, inflamed internal organs, enzymal variations etc.
Toxicity in soil - GMO products causes soil sterility which has a major effect on the land and agriculture. It also increases soil pollution. Some of the GM products kills fungi and other soil nutrients rendering the land barren and useless for further cultivation.
No longer organic farming - there is loss of purity among organic food products due to increased use of GMO products leading to their extinction. Bt cotton, brinjal and potatoes are some examples which have removed the original vegetables of their breed.
Safety and regulation - there is no security and safety regulation for the companies producing GMO to assure the better options of using GMOs. Most of the GMO foods are left to the market to fill in the gap of the supply and demand without checking the side effects of these products.
